Disclosure of Personal Information Over the Phone or Internet

As a general rule, it is recommended that personal information not be disclosed over the telephone or the internet when the resident has not initiated the contact. It is difficult to know who the solicitor really is on the other end of the telephone or computer. Most legitimate businesses would not initiate contact over the telephone or internet to solicit personal information. Unfortunately, there is no single phone number to call to determine if a business is legitimate or valid.
