Educational Opportunities for Children and Head Start
The Montgomery County ChildLink Office has information about key Programs for preschoolers who qualify based on income. This includes, but may not be limited to: Montgomery County Public Schools Head Start/Pre-K programs for children aged 3 and 4 years. Early Head Start programs for children are from birth through age 3. Other free or low-cost programs for preschoolers that are not based on income include: Parent Resource Centers operated during the school year offer drop-in program based on a sliding fee scale for children aged 0 - 5 years to attend with their parents or caregivers. Locations include Rockville, Silver Spring, and Gaithersburg.
All libraries offer a calendar of storytimes and other free activities for young children accompanied by an adult. Check a local Library branch for the schedule (see knowledge base). Some Montgomery County local High Schools have a Child Development program where preschoolers can enroll for free during the school year. Head Start : If child is already enrolled in a Head Start Program, please contact the program for assistance. Parents interested in registering a child for Head Start should consult with ChildLink/Early Childhood for an assessment. Send a service request to the office.
