Employee - Commuter Transit FSA Information

The Commuter Transit Flexible Spending Account (FSA) elected monthly amount is deducted from an employee's paycheck each pay period, prior to Federal, State and FICA taxes being calculated. Through this deduction, the employee will pay less in taxes. That amount is placed in a FSA. The employee may use the FLEXEXPRESS card (which will be issued in January) to purchase a mass transit pass. That amount is deducted from the employee's FSA account. Employees can enroll, reduce, increase or stop the election, at any time, during the plan year. To make changes, employees must complete and submit a Health and Life election form. Employees who use the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) metro rail system will need to purchase or reload fare cards, obtain receipts and then file a claim for reimbursement. WMATA does not allow the use of the FSA debit card to purchase Metro fare cards or passes.
