Preparing for a Disaster
The impact of severe weather on families can be reduced by planning in advance of an approaching storm or weather condition. The American Red Cross offers the following suggestions in preparation of emergency incidents.

There are six basic items that should be stocked in your home: Water Food, First-Aid Supplies, Clothing and Bedding, Tools & Emergency Supplies, Special Items

Keep the items that would most likely be needed during an evacuation in an easy-to-carry container, such as a trash can, camping backpack or duffel bag. Store the kit in a convenient place and keep a smaller version in a car. Keep items in air tight plastic bags. Change the stored water and rotate stored food every six months. Check supplies and re-think family needs every year. Also, ask a physician or pharmacist about storing prescription medication. For more informatation, please refer to the website.
