Employee - Police Posthumous Promotion Benefit

In January 2015, Montgomery County Government changed life insurance vendors from Prudential to Minnesota Life. In July 2015, the posthumous promotion benefit was implemented and upon a death in the line of duty, sworn officers will receive a promotion, and their life insurance benefit will be based on this amount. Beginning with the September 30, 2016 paycheck, all sworn officers will see a slight increase in any life insurance premiums (i.e, basic life, optional life, accidental death and dismemberment).

During Open Enrollment season, employees who would like to reduce their optional life insurance can do so through Friday, October 7, 2016, 5:00 PM. Changes can be made through the Employee Self-Service portal or by completing a paper election form, which can be found at the link referenced below. The amount of the increase varies on what life insurance benefits the sworn officer has elected. Those that are older and have elected optional life insurance may view a bigger increase in this deduction, as optional life insurance rates are based on age and salary.
