Maryland Health Connection (MHC) is the State's online enrollment system that helps Maryland residents between the ages of 18 and 65 obtain health insurance coverage. Frequently, MHC applicants do not have access to affordable health insurance coverage through their employer. MHC enables residents to obtain health insurance coverage for themselves and their family members.
Please note that the Open Enrollment period for private health insurance coverage has closed for 2017. However, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Requests for SEP enrollments can happen if any of the below situations have recently occurred: Getting married, having or adopting a child, certain changes in income, moving into or out of Maryland, certain losses of other health coverage. MHC is also where you apply for Medicaid or process the annual Medicaid re-determination.
See link below for additional information, including how to apply.
For questions about an application already submitted, billing issues or if one needs to re-certify for Medicaid, contact the Maryland State Call Center: 1.855.642.8572; (TTY 855.642.8573). One may also seek in-person assistance from a navigator, or caseworker at any of the in person assistance sites located throughout Montgomery County (see link below), or call: 240.777.1815 (hours: M-F, 8:30 - 4:00).
Individuals who have been approved for Medicaid and need help selecting a Managed Care Organization (MCO) or doctor may call the Medicaid Health Choice Line: 1.800.977.7388 or, if one has Medicaid and would like to report concerns about accessing health care call the Health Choice Enrollee Action line at: 1.800.284.4510.
Cases needing a re-determination or re-consideration will receive a notification letter with instructions.
Regarding the future of Obamacare (the ACA or MHC), final decisions are anticipated from federal and state officials regarding next year and beyond, in the coming weeks/months.
