Maryland Medical Assistance (MA) Program is a State program that assists needy individuals with help for medical expenses, including some prescription costs. Benefits are available for individuals with low income. To be considered for MA through Maryland Health Connection (MHC) you must fit into one of the following coverage groups: pregnant, families with children, childless adults under 65 not receiving Medicare. If under 65 years, or for families with children, or if pregnant please apply via the internet through the website (link 3) below to determine MA eligibility, or by calling 1.855.642.8572, the State of Maryland Call Center. One may also apply at the local Public Health Services (HHS) Office at 8630 Fenton St. 10th Floor, Silver Spring, MD. 20910 or to the MHC Office located at the local public health services office or at the 2nd floor of 8818 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD., 20910. If a person is 65 or older, and only applying for assistance with paying for Medicare premiums, co-payments, or deductibles, an application may be made in the Silver Spring office at 8818 Georgia Ave. 1st Floor Silver Spring, MD., 20910 for the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) or Specified Low Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) program. QMB/SLMB. Applications may be filed by mail, fax or in person. The fax number for the Silver Spring office is 240.777.3070. Medicaid coverage is automatically given to individuals receiving certain other public assistance benefits, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Foster Care. Medicaid eligibility for aliens is based on whether the alien is a "qualified" alien. Non-qualified aliens are not eligible for full Medicaid benefits; they may qualify for Medicaid coverage of emergency medical services if they meet all other eligibility criteria.
