Electrical Permit Requirement for Commercial Low Voltage Work

An Electrical Permit is required for Commercial Low Voltage work. DPS will not require electrical permits for certain low-voltage systems installed in an existing building; except when such systems penetrate fire-rated assemblies, or are installed in air plenums; provided the voltage does not exceed 24 volts (nominal) when supplied from a transformer, converter, or battery to Cable TV, Telephone, and data processing systems. Permits are still required for any alarm system(s).

NOTE: All electrical systems must be installed by a Montgomery County licensed electrical contractor regardless of whether or not an electrical permit is required.
