Bedbugs, Roaches, Mice, Rat Infestation/Extermination in Residential Rental UnitsFind more information from the following link(s):
The Housing Code Enforcement unit investigates complaints regarding the infestation of bedbugs, mice, rats or roaches in residential rental units. If this is a complaint regarding infestation at a restaurant, please see topic: "REPORTING FOOD POISONING OR SANITATION CONCERNS AT A RESTAURANT". If it is a complaint re: rats on private non-rental property, please see topic: "RATS, MICE, RODENT COMPLAINTS".
The property owner is responsible for extermination in multi-family rental units and the tenant is responsible in single family rental units. See Section 26-9(a)(9) of Chapter 26, Housing and Building and Maintenance Standards on the attached link for the Code reference. DHCA Housing Code Enforcement does not have jurisdiction inside the municipalities of Gaithersburg and Rockville. Complaints regarding rental properties within the City of Takoma Park are also handled by DHCA but complaints regarding commercial or owner occupied properties are handled by the City of Takoma Park.
