Permit Requirement for Removing Trees From the Right of Way

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining, pruning, removing and planting new trees in the right of way. If a resident requests permission to perform any of these activities on their own, or through a tree care contractor, the resident must first obtain a Roadside Tree Project Permit from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Forest Services 410.260.8511. In addition to the Maryland Roadside Tree Project Permit, a resident must obtain a Right of Way permit from Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services before performing any of these activities.
